Ray Kroc once said, "Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." Did you want to become an astronaut? Did you want to go to the moon? Did you want to play for the South Africa Cricket team? Did you want to have your own music band? Did you want to be a CEO of a large Multinational National Company? Did you want to climb Mount Everest? Did you want to be a world famous model? What was it? For a moment, suspend time and think of that thing you wanted. Without any fear. Yes, the skeptic in you wants to come out and berate you “Why waste time?” And I challenge you to do just that. Waste time in thinking about your wildest dream. Bring out that dream that you have relegated to the darkest recesses of your brain. If not now, then when? Give yourself permission to dream wild and then go after that dream!
It’s very easy to get caught up in the noise of your day or distractions from other people, but you need to realise that unless you develop a habit around spending time each day on your dream, it will never happen! It will just become a dream that so many people have, and that so few fulfill. See, to achieve most dreams you have to achieve tasks that are difficult and require hard work. The chances are that you are not the only person that has this same dream, and you are going to be competing against others to reach your goal.
You will only stand out if you outwork everybody else and be disciplined about taking daily action. Commit yourself to mastery and to being the very best at what it is that your dream involves. After all, if this dream is really something you want then having the motivation to take daily action towards it shouldn’t be that hard. If you find that taking daily action towards your dream is hard, then it may not be the right dream for you and you may want it for unfulfilling reasons like money or fame.
Anything you don’t feed will die. When the going is good, we sometimes don’t see reasons to stretch ourselves, but when the tides of life move against us that is when our faith, doggedness, passion and creativity comes to play. Most people would have to come to the brink of adversity before they set a dream for their life, because they couldn’t see beyond the present comfort zone. Do something daily that moves you towards the attainment of your dreams no matter how little or small the effort might be. Always do something daily that takes you a step further. Take your dreams outside the confinement of your resources; otherwise you might never experience the power and product of faith.
Whatever goal you have set for yourself, believe it is possible, just put your mind on it, take reasonable action, and necessary commitment towards its achievement. Until you have personally invested in your dreams, you won’t earn the support and contributions of others. People need to see your drive, passion and persistency before they come to your aid.
Sometimes, it’s not the goals that need to change, but the strategy at which you go about achieving them. Each step in the direction of our dreams gets us closer to it. Taking steps daily might involve reading articles daily that align to your pursuit. Subscribe to newsletters from websites like www.success.com , www.inc.com , www.forbes.com , www.entrepreneur.com , www.successstory.com and follow trends that relates to your goals. Someone somewhere has successfully achieved what you are aiming to achieve. Follow their lead, follow the clues they left behind and read their stories.
One of my favourite success icon is Jack Ma (the founder of Alibaba) see, no one can take you to where they are still aiming to go, it takes those who have successfully walked the path to tell you how the journey is really like. If you don’t have enough passion, enthusiasm and drive to bring your goals or dreams to fruition, it will only end up a dream and the best you would be called is a dreamer.
If giving up your time of watching daily soapies is what it takes to give your dream a stretch, over time it will pay off. Sacrifice, discipline and action are key ingredient to living a successful life. Time is relative to success. The parts of your life that will excel are the parts that you invest time in. Time is a currency and we all have that in common except none of us know how long we have. Jeff Bezos once said, "I knew that if I failed I wouldn't regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying."
